The Material

Walson's glass is lead-free mixture of silica, quartz sand, soda ash,and barium comes to us in pellet form. The "raw" glass pellets are fed into the glass furnace where they are heated to approximately 1800 centigrade degree. The glassblower places the heated end of a blowing pipe into the molten glass and gathers a glob of glass by turning the pipe. This is called "the gather".
